My First Jumper Derby

So I decided this year I wanted to do something different with my mare, last year we tried western, the year before barrel racing (have video on trot), this year is eventing! We both went into this not knowing much and I've been taking lessons from a trainer that's been doing eventing for awhile.

I know we aren't perfect (or any where near it), but I wanted to share pictures from our first informal event. A local Pony Club put on a Jumping Derby which is cross country and stadium jumps combined. Our jumps were a max 2ft so not that big

My girl is really game and it's a challenge to get her to slow down and chill out. We did a lot of trotting in between fences to we didn't go way under our optimal time. She seems to really enjoy the jumping...and well....the dressage is somewhere LOL

Sounds like you had a blast. Keep us updated here, as I am hoping to try some of the derbys in a few years when Cole is more mature and ready. Again, saddlebreds can do it all!

You guys look awesome! Good job!!

Can i offer just one *teensy* little bit of advice..?. Your noseband is too low... a LOT of people position the figure 8 nosebands too low, and a lot of instructors don't say anything, but it's kind of a tiny pet peeve of mine, lol.. sorry... The ring point needs to be a bit higher up on her cheek and the sheepskin button a bit higher on the bridge of her nose, like this: http://www.nunnfiner.com/v/vspfiles/photos/F8EB-2T.jpg
It's not meant to be positioned in the same place as a regular cavesson and flash.

Carry on, she looks like a blast ro ride! Reminds me of my first ASB, she was a fiery little liver chestnut as well!
