Does anyone know this horse?

I do not know if this is the right place to post. If it isn't I'm sorry! I bought this horse, Steven, from SBR. He is between 10-13-His tail was cut-he knows how to rack-nip on nose- and wore a double bridle like a pro. I wouldn't care(hes my 8yr academy horse) but I would love to show him western/CP at some small sadllebred shows. Hes such a ambassador toSBR and the breed itself thats why I have chosen to try and DNA him and maybe know his breeding. Thank you for any help! Sorry pic looks bad this is when he was fist delivered! I was up for hrs straight waiting for him!

What a lovely boy. Does he have any facial markings? That would help the super sleuths around here ...

Wow, I was just trying to use the ASHA registry search function, and noticed that it has a very confined search function. For example, you can't search stallion OR gelding at the same time, you can't search a year range, and the marking search terms have to be put in the exact words and the exact order that they are found on the registry papers. For example, for a horse whose markings read:
"Blaze, lower lip, both front ankles, left higher outside, both hind socks, white"

I can search "Blaze, both front ankles" and not find THIS horse, even though his description contains all of these words.

Is there another registry search engine that I need to know about?

If not, I would like to make a suggestion to the folks over at ASHA. It is relatively simple to make a search engine that allows you to search through your registry MUCH more effectively. The basic need is to enable the use of boolean searches, which simply allow the use of the "AND, OR and NOT" commands between keywords that you are searching.

This would sure help in identifying some of these mystery horses. Especially here, where we could search for "right front pastern NOT star" and probably come up with fewer hits to search through, even if we were able to search for "stallion OR gelding" and to search a range of years.

The best person or persons to talk to about using the ASHA site is Karen Medicus or Pat Johnson. Karens talk name is KMMED1 and Pats is Magic. They know all of the tricks.

It is tricky, you have to find the right combo of markings in the right order. I did find that they start with face, then right front, left front, right hind, left hind (or whatever combo the horse has, or sometimes they say Both front and Both hind if all are white). I hope someone at the AHSA sees the suggestions above and takes them into consideration because it would be nice to use a wild card when searching or "AND, OR and NOT" commands between keywords.

Don't get me wrong, its great to be able to search at all, but just a few small adjustments could make a really big difference when searching for a mystery horse.

Cynthia if you want to split up the duties by year, etc. let me know. I like to search for identities.

You have to start with a very generic search. i.e. both hind s, the year you think he would have born then do both stallion and gelding.

Feel free to start a topic under cold case squad on the sbr forum. http://forum.saddlebredrescue.com/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=3

We need pictures showing all markings. The ones we have are with muddy feet so it is hard to tell. Include his age.

Since he came from SBR, there are some good pictures on pages 1 and 2 of his original thread of the SBR forum: http://forum.saddlebredrescue.com/to...?TOPIC_ID=2921
Helpfully,
Jeanie
