Tongue Tying

I searched and found a discussion about it, but it was from a few years ago. I also couldn't find anything in the rule books, but wanted to make sure on here as well.

Is it legal to tongue tie a country pleasure horse/open english horse? Even if it is legal, if the judge sees it, will he penalize that horse or give them a lower placing because of it?

I'm pretty sure it's legal. Of course you don't want the judge to see it, but I don't know that just because they see the tongue tie that they'd place you lower because of it. Most of the time if you use shoestring, it's very difficult to see amidst a curb bit and curb chain.

That's what I thought. Plus my horse is black and I use black shoe string, so it's harder to see.

I don't think it's so much that you don't want the judge to see, you just don't want it to look sloppy. I've never heard of any judge tying a horse lower because it's tongue is tied.

yeah on a black horse i don't think you have anything to worry about. just clip off the ends after it's tied if you're concerned they'll see it. Pretty sure a great many of the Saddlebreds out there in the show ring are tied. . .

Well I was looking at some show pictures and couldn't find any that looked like they were tied, so I just got anxious that it was illegal now and I didn't know it haha.
Thanks for the help guys!
