Anyone out there running barrels on their ASB's?
I'm currently training my 4 year old mare, Top Flight's Final Edition aka CJ. She is the product of my former ASB Sport horse breeding program. Since I'm not doing the sport horse thing any more, I am going back to my western/ barrel racing roots!
She seems perfect for it! She loves to run and can turn on a dime!
She was lightly started under saddle as a 3yo. Her general training has stepped up this year. I have started her barrel racing training the last few months. We are trotting well around the pattern. A couple days ago we did our first lope around them!
We have been to one local jackpot for seasoning. We did a couple training runs. She is taking well to all of it.
While I don't expect her to be a 1D world beater, I think she will be able to hold her own in some of the other D's eventually. Esp if she gets a lighter rider! LOL

I'd love to hear for any others that are doing the same with their ASB's!!
(Yes I am aware of Courtney and TIA. They are my heroes! :thumbup1: )

I've attached some pics of our training:cowboy:

I like the timer as a judge. Instead of depending on some one's opinion of you. No favoritism with the clock!

Yep, that's why I started jumping! I'd love to show jumpers someday, where I'm the only one that can beat me.

The girl who used my Tech for 4-H this year took him in flags and she won. He had never done it before. We had a great time watching them.

I've done gaming with mine. In spite of his size and our combined inexperience we even placed above the regulars in some events. We were able to do one practice before the event and he "got it" after only one trot around. Saddlebred's rock!

ETA this was a sanctioned event also.

Love what you are doing! Don't think I'll be a barrel racer but my 5yo can get pretty horizontal around a turn! Take lots of videos!

Here is a headshot of my Baby Girl getting ready for work! She loves to work. Tries so hard to please me. She does have a ornery competitive spirit in her personality. Those are the traits that tend to make them excel.

Isn't it a blast?! I had the most fun that week-end. I did 3 different disciplines with him in one week-end. Trail riding. gymkhana, and Open English Pleasure SS.

I thought about doing games for real at our sanctioned local shows but I didn't want to train to him to be hotter.lol! Plus he really is way too big to these events. If he were 15.2H, with his mind, he'd be competitive.
