I was perusing the web today and ran across this blog post and video. After the mental fatigue of the Ban the Pads thread, I really don't want to re-open this can of worms. Never-the-less, I do think there is some value in watching the accompanying video and drawing your own conclusions.

Well, I am going to play devil's advocate and say the video has to be taken with a grain of salt and viewed seperately from the accompanying blog entry. Yes, it is quite possible that this is a horse being hit with a broom because he will not stand for checking. However, to glean this conclusion from the video takes a lot of assumptions. If there is a horse being hit with the broom, is it possible that the horse could have bit someone or struck someone just as easily as not tolerating foot palpating?

"Burning a horse inside the nostril to make it stand still'...
How on earth would that even work? Sticking something up a horse's nose is most likely to make it flip over backward, not STAND. And maybe take you out with a front foot on the way. Not able to follow this trainwreck at all!

"I've seen a horse with a scar in it's nose" ...and therefore I think it was burned!
...I guess they have never heard of horses with nasal infections, etc. - remember the rescue that needed so much surgery/help in that department.

There is a horse, a man and a broom in the trailer. What happens between all of the above and WHY is completely imagined and interpreted by the blogger. Could have been something as simple as frustrated groom gets tired of horse pinning him against side of stall and swats horse. Could be horse refuses to step over or up into it's assigned space and receives a swat.
Hitting a horse to make it stand still? With something as slow to arrive as a broom?
Just asking a horse to dodge out of the way of the swat.

Go to many small shows and you will see people loading their horses or putting them into wash stalls with the 'broom swat technique' and they don't have TWH or even Saddle seat horses.

Try again.

So...I just went back to watch the video again to confirm what I saw earlier when low and behold the video has already been altered and the segment in question has been edited and deleted!!!!

Actions speak louder than words... dbs, what defence do you have for the deletion? I really wonder if most of the illegal stuff has to be done to these poor animals in their trailers for secrecy, how in the world do they get them to renter a trailer... ever? As I type this, I really don't doubt that these "tortur...errr trainers" have means that I can't imagine.

I have no idea what why or where and haven't returned to the blog site, never contacted the blogger; just clicked the link you posted, read, thought and returned here to post.

Nothing else.

I am for free speech and free thinking. Hoping those go together.

And i appreciate those who have the courage of their convictions and post their views; on the other hand there are opposing views and one has to accept that not everyone will agree with posted opinions.

As to the entering the trailer and torture, sadly many horses and other animals do not think ahead and anticipate or link together disconnected sequences of events.

I'm not sure where or what you are trying to accomplish with your comment as to means and I am nowhere near your area, but there are fools, aggressive idiots everywhere that come into contact with horses.

It's never pretty.

The blogspot cited is blatantly anti padded... she makes no bones about it and will twist the most inocuos things into an abuse of the padded horse theory. I wasn't at the show this supposedly happened at.
The horse could have struck at the groom, bit him, slammed him, pinned him....... I kinda doubt anyone would stand for a groom just wooping on the big money horse.....

as to why it was taken down., or edited.. well just from the few jump the gun comments I can see why... stop and think of the things you do to your horse and see how that would play on the net (how about twitching, John Q Public would love that one). Bracing tails ain't real pretty either....

I use a plastic baseball bat (the wiffle ball kind,) on my studs when they thought they we bigger and badder than me (I smack them on the chest, the neck, anywhere but the head)..... could back one down the aisles and turn them into little lambs again if one got out of line, and not leave a mark on em.... my studs well behaved... well yes.. but they were well behaved because they knew I would brook no nonsense...

This is deteriorating way too fast. We have enough issues of our own to deal with. Let's take care of our own house first.
