Liz Homes asked me to remind everyone that the Tar Heel Spring Classic has moved to the Latta Plantation Equestrian Center (same location as Charlotte Charity) and will still be held the first weekend in May. Brian Reimer is judging all classes. The class schedule is available by clicking here (http://www.saddlehorsereport.com/calendar.aspx?d=1&y=2008&m=5&cid=1402). The prize list is at the printer and will be mailed soon.

Make plans to be a part of the "reinvented" Tar Heel Spring Classic!

One more thing, since the show is no longer a fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club, there will be no gate admission this year or need to worry about exhibitor badges. :)

I hate to see the show move away from the Statesville area, as it was the only truly local saddlebred show in the area when I was growing up....

BUT, thank goodness the show has moved!!! The grounds and stabling at Latta are FAR superior to what was available at the Iredell fairgrounds. Much safer too, for both horses and exhibitors.

Hmmm...I might miss the excitement of jumping out of the show ring, though. I got to participate in that "traditional" activity there in my horse's first horse show, many years ago. Young horse...had just learned the cue for cantering...hey, who can blame her. The fence was only knee high to her!

I will miss it being at Statesville as well...I swear that fence just got lower and lower every year. I'm just glad my gaited horse is a good boy about steering because the way he barges through everything I think he would just go right over it with out a problem!

Not looking forward to the Charlotte traffic, but it was time for a change I guess. At this point the only shows that I went to when I first started showing that are still in their original location are Blowing Rock and Roanoke.

I think it may have been my very first time showing Academy many years ago...I was riding Imperious and I asked him to canter....and he did....right over the rail...

Quite a surprising experience, isn't it? While funny to remember, I was always scared to death that a horse would hop the rail right into people who were sitting in the "boxes" there. Most horses have more sense....but still.

OK this one is getting close...who will be there? We originally were going to Asheville Spring, but decided to go here instead (closer to home can drive back and forth if we need to). I'll probably be in Amateur 5-gaited.

We're bringing 14 or so, and doing promotion for Saddlebred Rescue. Here's a copy of the story from Saddlehorse Report:

Saddlebred Rescue and Tar Heel Classic Team Up
Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Saddlebred Rescue and the Tar Heel Classic will be teaming up to promote Rescue Awareness and Adoption. Pat Johnson of Saddlebred Rescue will be there to answer questions and help with the adoption process. Jansal Saddlebreds, a longtime supporter of Saddlebred Rescue, will be sponsoring a dessert party during and after the academy session on Saturday. Jansal will be showing many rescues at the show in the performance and academy division.

Donations as well as "sponsorships" will be accepted. Adoptable horses will be available on site as well as video of others available for adoption Show Manager Liz Holmes has graciously donated booths to promote the rescue. Visitors are welcome at any time to meet the rescues, they will be located at Jansal. Info will be posted on each horse’s stall with their "story". There are quite a few rescues with papers that would make great AOT horses.

There will also be a fundraiser, "Treats for Treasures," where people will be able to purchase carrots, etc. and feed a rescue horse. The money will all go back to the rescue.

So don't forget to come say hello and check out the rescues anytime and get some dessert on Saturday!

After several years of declining numbers at the original location, it was wonderful to hear earlier this week that the stalls are full and horses had to be turned away. I wish I could be there this weekend but have an unavoidable conflict. I can't wait to see results and hear all about the show. Good luck to everyone who is showing!

We are having a great time and it has yet to rain (knock on wood). Some classes are really full (11 in one Country Pleasure class), but we did have a rash of one horse classes last night for some reason. Dylan and I were 2nd in the Amateur 5-Gaited and are hoping to do a little better tonight. We were almost one of the ones that had to be turned away, but some stalls opened up last week so we could come.

It was a great show and IT DID NOT RAIN! Not a drop at any time!

Dylan was a wild man :taz: Saturday night...the deep sandy footing was a little hard to figure out, but we managed to win the Amateur 5-gaited Championship! I was really proud of my boy.

Thanks, Susan! We had a blast...I just wish that I had been able to take Dylan on the trails. We were too close to a reset to take the chance though. Maybe next year!
