Came across this and, well, sometimes people want to just have some fun with their horses.

Friesians are a growing breed despite some major obstacles they have had to overcome.

We might try to share some of their lighthearted fun atmosphere at our shows and presentations.

Being able to enjoy having a horse IS a fantasy to most non-horsey people, why not trade on it?

Wow -- now those were some impressive costumes! Our local show has a "native costume" class and a handful of arabians and pasos usually enter. Their outfits and tack are really gorgeous and it does make for a colorful and interesting break in the classes. It would be neat to have a saddlebred in that group in civil war dress or racking away in southern plantation owner gear -- hummm, now that I think about it, wouldn't that be a great way to infuse some breed history about our ASB's roots into our class lists . . .

But but but....that would mean having fun and laughing and such. Can't be done I'm sure.

Having been in Friesian costume classes, hate to tell ya, but they are as cuthroat as any class out there ;)

And, the equivalent in the ASB world is the Parade class ('cuz trust me, knowing what is paid for the Friesian costumes, yep, the tack and the costumes ARE expensive).

Well, there goes the bedsheet with two eyeholes, cap gun, and a cowboy hat 'ghost of Annie Oakley' costume I was planning!

I'm seeing an audience of hundreds in the stands and waaay deep on the rail. THIS thrills me!!! I LOVE Costume classes and Parade classes! Yes, it is very, very expensive, but it sure draws an audience!! Possible potential for future lessons and future owners. And it IS fun! Thank you Mary for sharing!!

We do the costume classes at some of the local shows here (usually the 'fun' shows, these days - some of the costumes aren't fancy or historically-accurate (or even pretending to be), but they meet the 'fun' requirement!) - I have one coming up next weekend, actually (and if what I want to do works out, I was already planning to post it on Trot for everyone, too! -crosses fingers-). They're absolutely my favourite part of riding. ^_^

Don't know about anywhere else, but you'd fit right in at ours. ;D
