The 25th Annual Dr. Rick Luft Limited Breeders Stake of Wisconsin Stallion Service Auction will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Delafield Hotel in Delafield, WI. , a suburb of Milwaukee. A special overnight room rate is available with reference to the Wisconsin Futurity. The phone number is 262-646-1600. The evening will begin at 4:00 PM with the Wisconsin Futurity Annual Meeting. All are welcome to this meeting. From 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM complimentary cocktails and silent auction. Dinner and awards will start at 6:00 PM. The live Stallion service auction will immediately follow dinner featuring some of the nation's most sought after Stallions. The resulting weanlings will compete for substantial prize money at the Wisconsin Futurity Horse Festival in 2011. All offspring by the Stallions sold at this auction will be eligible for the 2014 Wiscosnin Futurity Three-Year-Old Incentive Class, which stands separate of the Weanling Breeders Stake.
The Dr. Rick Luft Limited Breeders Stake of Wisconsin was the first American Saddlebred Weanling Breeders Stake in the country. Since its conception, the program has paid out more than $1.5 million to weanling and stallion owners. In 2009, the first place weanling won $28,800 with $7200 of that being paid out to the stallion owner.

The Delafield Hotel is a marvelous and very unique hotel. Its worth coming to the auction just to stay over night. We only live 30 minutes away but we're staying.
Coltman has some really nice stallions available. I think several of the youngsters are incredibly promnising. If you want to win futurities, we have the top futurity sires including The Last Don. This stallion's offspring have won here in Wisconsin in both 2008 and 2009 plus many other places. Some of his get are starting to make it to the show ring with impressive results.
By the way if you're also looking for a horse you are within an hour of 15 plus farms. Four are within 15 minutes. Our barns up here are heated so don't worry about the weather.

I was there. The auction went well. The dollars were about the same as last year. And, I think we had the smallest number of unsold stallions almost ever or at least that I can remember. The hotel was incredible. We had a four poster king bed in our room and the bathroom was almost like a spa with a whirlpool tub and multi head shower. Lots of walnut paneling in the lobby and other seating areas. Reminds you of the libraries or drawing/smoking rooms in English manor houses in the movies. Memories of Sherlock Holmes. The room rate was good, $100/night and food was excellent.
