Ok,
I'm putting this up here because I'm really proud of her. We've been playing around with barrel racing at the barn with one of the other girls (who is AWESOME at it) and we went to a competition this past weekend together. Alyse (my ASB) stood tied to the trailer all day and was pretty calm about it. We didn't get there early enough to practice in the arena, so our first run was our only run. She was confused at first as to why we were running into the arena, but did well otherwise. I'm so very proud of her for making a good impression for saddlebreds among all the quarter horse people. As you can see she canters like a saddlebred...LOL. She is very good at barrel racing at home and absolutely loves it, its a good change from doing saddleseat all the time. In two weeks we are off to a ASB show and showing in CP, so working on our saddlebred stuff till then.
I just wanted to share this because it is a saddlebred in a non-traditional arena!
(and because she did so well :) )
Oh, and it was my first time too in BR competition(please be nice), so I kinda blanked out, all I remember was making sure she was on the right lead for the second barrel...lol

What we need at ASB shows to mix it up! Maybe some racking barrel racing...Dylan would LOVE that!

I'm on the collge rodeo team. Maybe I should track down a Saddlebred and do some barrels and poles! Anyone got a horse they want to donate to the cause?
BTW, your time would have been pretty close to the top at the high school rodeo I helped with a few weeks ago!

Look at YOU!
How fantastic! I was lucky growing up because I got to see many many non traditional breeds doing Everything. If the horse wasn't a dedicated "A" horse, it would be out at the fun shows and the trail rides. Morgans, Arabs, a couple saddlebreds, some part breeds, draft crosses, you name it! I am so so so glad you did this! I think its good to mix it up like that, especially for these guys who can go all snort and blowy just cuz their bored.
YOU ROCK!
and no practice at all? Yeah buddy!

THANKS!
It was lots of fun, and you see I even have two reins and a martingale...if i didn't her head would have been in the saddle with me...lol And we are just in a smooth snaffe, she was so light in the bridle it's awesome.
Some of the horses that were there the girls couldn't even stop and they had to find a wall, I'm so glad mine has a built in Woah!

You can see how much the horse enjoyed getting the chance to go full tilt under saddle with you too! You came around the last barrel and I could just See It.
They really CAN do anything!

Just let her stretch out and run! You'll be there quick. Really nice versital horse you've got. There is no limit to what these horses can do.

Just to give you an idea of what these horses can do running. We have a mounted shooting course that is a barrel course only you shoot ten balloons in the process. As I recall, Tyra did that in just over 20 seconds. You can probably knock 5 off your time on that one!

Would it be possible for you to send a DVD of this to the American Saddlebred Museum? We are looking for this type of footage for our 2010 exhibit. Thanks - email to Kim@asbmuseum.org

I just got a chance to watch your video.... too cool!!! I wouldn't have guessed she was new to it.
A long time ago I had a little five gaited horse who could trot a pole bending course faster than any of the quarter horses in my 4-H could run it. The kids in my club used to get all upset when I entered, and claimed it wasn't fair that I wasn't galloping. :001_tt2:

A girl I ride with was showing pleasure in a local show awhile back. Anyway whe was all tacked out when the barrel race started. Jenni entered for fun and ran it in her saddle seat stuff and won!

This past weekend we showed CP and she was absolutely perfect :) Not as much motion as the ones that beat us, but we did ribbon in each class which was nice.......I'm still thinking she likes Barrel Racing better!! LOL

Congrats on the show! :D
We tried my CP gelding at some barrels today. Granted, it was at home and we have a small arena, but his fastest time was 16.2! I think he'd do better if his big 17hh self had more space to turn and such. Our arena isn't very big!

Coming along great! Little more time and a little more room and you'll be running with the fast guys.

Alot of its in your head too. The horse will go as fast as you let him. Once he figures the game you'll be amazed at how fast he'll improve. Go for it!
