View Full Version : Bed Sores
Our older Clyde mare is foundered. She has been since long before we met her. She goes through good and bad times with her feet. She is going through a tougher time again right now. She spends a lot more time lying down. Her original bed sores are mostly like calluses on her hips. When she goes through a bad time they start to crack and get softer. This is really hard in the summer with all the bugs. Does anyone know of something I could put on them? The Desitin tends to pick up the saw dust. It seems like with all the advancements in medicine somebody should make something that would protect and seal.
Thank you,
Kristine

Allu-Spray It comes in a can from the vet and is silver when sprayed on... I can't remember if that is the brand name, correct name, or no name. It keeps the flies out for sure. Maybe someone here can verify the name but I am sure if you describe it the vet will know what it is. Good luck!

I agree with the alumin spray.... after they heal, regularly put a softening agent on them to keep the "scars" more pliable....I would even use something like hooflex (if you put it on the ergots and chestnuts they stay soft)...

We went thur the samething with our poor late Goosebumps. We used the allu-spray. It worked pretty good. We also used pelleted bedding and then on top of it we put tons of straw to try to ease bed sores!
