I keep thinking of something Anke said on the other link and I wonder what would be involved (how could it be done on a bare bones budget) to have Tee's made up that say "How can we show the best and not take care of the rest"

I say bare bones budget so we can donate all proceeds to the ASHA Equine Welfare depository.

I also wonder about private donations of items that could be raffled with proceeds to the same depositry.

I think there are a lot of people out there with connections from all over in all areas and maybe we could all make suggestions and possibly pursue the suggested avenue to get the donations for the raffels.

I agree Lily! I would be proud to wear a t-shirt with that quote on it. Anybody have ideas on how to get it done?

Gee, I was wondering about all that copyright law stuff.....She will have to let us know!!! LOL

I have forwarded an email on to get some idea of what this entails and if they would be interested......Updates will be comin when I get em!!

If this quote is given the okay with Anke and everyone agrees on it...

Would we put the whole thing on the front or put..

"We show the best..... (on the front and then)

.......starve the rest!" (on the back?)

The creative details should also be discussed as this may effect the price.......(I am guessing, no concrete info if this is the case)

As if you need to ask!! Go for it!!

We need funds to feed these horses and have funds available to help with shipping when its time to re-home them. So, I guess EWC/ASHA better get an adoption process in place.

maybe we should not say "starve the rest" maybe we should be more "politically correct" and try to get the point across w/out being /sounding hard core..

"Let's show the best and take care of the rest!"

Is more appropriate unless you are simply trying to offend people who show and have some money.

Getting people on your side and helping and feeling good about themselves is a better way to go than in your face.

Of course if you don't need help from the rest of the community...

I'm glad that I put that up that way!!

I thought, while ....a very awesome quote, it may be too "in your face/forceful".

We need as many as can give to assist with this. Offending some or having someone read it and be uncomfortable about supporting or asking about what it is for would not get the "Yes, I'll help...and feeling good for participating" mindset that is the very goal we are reaching for!

"Show the best.....care for the rest" That's pretty easy to say and read line!!!............I think we may be onto "something" here!!!

All on the front or break it up ... front and back????

Can you tell I was a cheerleader?.....I took off the "Let's" and "taking"....LOL

Which way??

wet blanket here, again. Using the ASHA Equine Welfare sig or logo you really should get final approval/permisssion from the committee (apologies if you are the commitee members!) as you are speaking for others.

"in support of" might get you around that.

Lily
06-30-2009, 06:34 PM
i am not speaking for anyone; we have a thread here to try and field suggestions on how to raise funds for the horse now and later....I am meerly suggesting a "thought or and idea". I by no mens have no influence and do not want any influnece/power. I just want to throw out an idea on a way to raise money.

IF we decide this is something we would like to do then we could approach ASHA and any needed people to get the ok to do this sort of thing w/a logo and any other permissions we would need to aquire

Again, it is ALL ABOUT THE HORSES and what we can do to try and get funds.

and BTW give me a littel bit of credit.. I am not the shaprest tack in the box but I do know that releases and permissions would need to be obtained

I spoke with the T-shirt lady!! She is all for helping with this.

The way it was explained to me is the more colors, the more screens ......which means the cost goes up every color.

I think we have to balance a simple design that people would also like to wear. We should consider that either a woman or a man would want to wear the shirt.......and not just because it's the only clean shirt they have!! LOL

+Her favorite quote was this one: "We show the best and care for the rest!" She liked this one the best.....just FYI....

Maybe-

A decent size silouette of the ASB in one color and the quote inside the horse. We can (upon approval) put in smaller letters "participating to support the continuing efforts of the ASHA Equine Welfare Committee ...MC Fund" under the horses feet as if it is the ground they are trotting on...... (or something like that!!)

I'm not sure if this an option....I'll find out, but if the letters of the quote were open.....the color of the shirt would be seen and we have a "color" without an extra screen. And the lower level ASHA acknowledgement could be either the same as the horse... (If we could do this, it would add a variety as we can change the color of the shirts too!)

or if we can't do the block out idea....all lettering one color and the horse the other. (?)

Goal is to keep costs as low as possible so that leaves higher proceeds for the "MC Fund"

Maybe the charter clubs would like to sell the t-shirts too?

Let me take over Devil's advocate for a minute...
The t-shirt idea with the new not-so-insulting to people who show quote is nice. With the fishi-ness going on with the MC horses, I probably wouldn't buy one. I may however, buy one if it was going to a general fund for the ASHA EW. Just a thought from a potential buyer. Plus, if you left the MC part off, the design could remain for other causes.

A very good point!!!!

Outside the MC deletion....do you like it?

Are there any other ideas?

It would be good to have a few varying ideas that we could put together and then ultimately choose one for this and have a couple on standby in case we need a concept for the future...

I would buy one whether the money goes directly to the Mercer County Horses or to the EW. I liked Anke's original quote the best but I understand your reasoning for being more politically correct. I am not one that would care if I offended somebody that "neglects the rest" but that's just me.

My only suggestion is that the t-shirt color not be white. I wear t-shirts everyday and white is not a color that works well with horses or with well water! The ASB silhouette sounds great though!

The color of the shirts can be different to give more options. It was suggested to choose colors that are on the lighter side as the artwork will show up better.

As to choosing colors- this is for the horse itself and then the quote and lettering.
Need to choose colors for:
1. horse silouette
2. lettering/quote

Are there any other design ideas other than the silouette of the horse with the quote across it, then on the bottom the ASHA Equine Welfare Committee line?

Hello All.

This is my first post to a public forum. I am a long time saddlebred enthusiast and owner. . . and wish I weren't compelled to get involved.

However, the nature and severity of this situation is causing sleepless nights. . .that 'this' could be happening down the road from some of our most illustrious farms and showgrounds is unthinkable to me.

With that, I am wondering if anyone is interested in some T-shirt, Pin, Bumper Sticker. . . etc. ideas that are a little outside the box?

I do a lot of work with the local Humane Society here in Milwaukee, and have helped to raise significant funds for their efforts.

A very nice person has emailed me some suggestions about fun Tshirts to fundraise with:

- one I can't mention, but if you see it on someone in the near future, you'll know what I am talking about.
- LOVE your Horses, NOT your ribbons
- FEED your horse, NOT your ego
- Hay, Man

This person also mentioned some of the fundraising efforts that are being made amongst the groups that raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation and their competitiveness who can design the best T-shirt. Maybe a fundraising idea? We can also take to Ebay and sell to other horsie folks.....

Hello.

Attached, hopefully, are samples of the ideas that I mentioned in my previous post. Kudos to Anke, who was wisely proofing my ideas.

These are just some first thoughts. . . the idea behind these 'shirts' is to be tongue firmly in cheek. . .a bit in your face. . . but with a hint of humor and irony.

I am taking the lead from various Susan B. Koman shirts I have seen at their fundraising road races. . . their slogans are amazing, bold, graphic, sad, funny. . .all at once. But they do stick in your mind. . .

My opinion as ever:

If you want to wear your own shirt, put anything on it you want to. On the other hand, if you want to sell the shirts to others to raise money for horses in need, make the buyers feel like they are part of the solution "I helped a horse today" type stuff, not "Other people are bad"

Most people want to help, not everyone wants to be part of an attack squad. Have your shirt give them an ATTABOY! and they'll want to buy = $$ for the horses. That's the point.

Think like your customer?

John, thank you for dropping by and giving us some of your insight and suggestions and I must say that I love...love..love the sayings.

I hope we can "all" work together with an objective thought and one sole purpose..THE LOVE OF THE HORSE. I think when I get so exaspirated, that thought is the one that brings me back to staying here on Trot and not just signing off completely. I consider this a "voice" for the horses. I know a lot of people do not care for public forums and I know there are pros and cons but if we use the "tool" that has been provided we can do this.

John, I feel that we must be compelling(here on Trot) as you have stopped in and introduced yourself and I hope we can come toghether and make this work.

i guess that is why the way i had worded it was more of a question than a statement and i left off the word (don't) so it read:
how can we show the best

but i do agree that whatever is on the shirts it should be POSITIVE = sales :)

Baldstockings got me thinking about how a quote can be meant to be taken one way, when it actually means something quite the opposite...

So, I played with a few last night

1. Making a difference
2. Pay-for-Hay
3. Ging for outside the Ring
4. Saving a life, one at a time
5. Helping those in Need
6. When in need...E. W. C.
7. E. W. C. for those in Need

I think a full-blown "glad to help" message is the way to get anyone to potentially offer their support......

What do you think?....

without getting too spiritual. . . how about something like the line from Tiny Tim in the Christmas Carol- "God bless us, every one" We of course could rearrange it to something like "Bless our Saddlebreds, every one." I don't have any sayings to add, but I wanted to mention that I wore my favorite t-shirt today and it is royal blue(fruit of the loom heavy) with white lettering. The lettering really stands out and I love the color! I am guessing that fruit of the loom would not be expensive to acquire.

Wet blanket again...remember no funds will be raised if these get too expensive.

Keeping cost down is imperative so more $$ goes to the horses :)

People are quicker to part with a $10 than a $20 or a $50.

If you get some sample quotes you will have a better idea as to which direction to go.

Production costs for Hanes white T-shirts with one color designs front/back run about $4-5. (Been there on getting them for large events).

What you can do is offer t-shirts and then women's tanks - those typically sell like hot cakes, and for more $$s. Long sleeve T's do well and you can justify the expense.

Usually, we do: Short sleeve $10, 2 for $15
Women's tanks: $12, 2 for $20
Long sleeve: $20, 2 for $30

I don't have anything to add as far as the slogan goes, but I do agree that some of us would buy a colored shirt before a white one. I have a "slobberer" in the barn and the second I show up in a white t-shirt it has green stains all over it...therefore my white shirts quickly become "horse washing" or "working on the car" shirts rather than something I will wear out to promote something. Baseball Caps are also something I would buy since I always wear one at a show after I do my hair and then after I show.

Just some thoughts from your "target audience".

Leave no Horse behind!
I like very much. Maybe John, as he has done fundraising before, might be convinced to take the lead on this. I think stickers, pins, caps and t-shirts would be good items. We need to get as much squeezed out of the sales as we can! But now, where are we going to keep the money gathered and kept? I think it would be nice to maybe also start a fund for aid in shipping to folks willing to take a horse, but are balking at the shipping expense.
Any ideas??
