I was wondering if riders of other breeds of horses have ever made the World Cup team? Such as an Arab or Morgan rider? Someone who did not show Saddlebreds.
I know there have been Saddlebred riders, who also showed other breeds that have been on the team, such as Sarah Taylor and JJ Beck. I was just wondering if someone who wasn't a Saddlebred rider ever made it? Thanks!

Yes, I'm pretty sure we had a World Cup rider recently who showed Arabians. Her name is escaping me right now, though...I'm sure someone else can think of it.

Alexis Scott made the team. She showed arabians and NSH's. She went Champion in the UPHA NSH finals so she had an automatic audtition.
Although, recently after that (or at the same time, not sure) she started showing saddlebreds too. Now she shows on the ASB and Arabian show circuit.

Actually, Alaina Blake was the first Arabian rider to win a gold medal on a world cup team. She was on the team in 2006, when they competed in the US. Alexis made the next team that competed in South Africa.

Not a problem! My daughter is good friends with both and I just wanted Alaina to be mentioned, especially since she was the first!

I am pretty sure Georgia Hunter was on the team one year...if I recall, they won the team gold, and she also won the individual gold medal. I forget what year exactly...2000 maybe?

I thought at the UPHA mtg at WWU this weekend they stated that the last team had a representative from each saddleseat breed.

I believe it is every other year. And last year riders tried out around the beginning of the year at WWU.

We had a 2008 world cup team and the next is 2010. applications will be available at the royal and will be due by the first of january or something and if you are accepted to tryout (20 applicants accepted for 3 gaited, 10 accepted for five gaited) the you try out at william woods in february 2010 and the team would be announced immediately. 2010 world cup will be apart of the 2010 world equestrain games (broadcasted) but it will be held at the shelbyville horse show i believe

Hi all,
Thought I would pop in to answer some of these questions...straight from the 'horse's mouth' so to speak.
The Bid Selection Guidelines are designed to ensure representation from the Morgan, Arabian and National Show Horse breeds as well as the Saddlebred at the US Team Trials. Automatic bids are extended to the winners of the UPHA Senior Challenge Cup Finals for each breed, and each breed association also is able to nominate an additional rider to the trials. Riders from the Morgan, Arabian and National Show Horse breeds have all made the US World Cup teams in various years.
The 2010 World Cup event will be held at the Kentucky Fall Classic show in Shelbyville (it is being held there for 2010 as their normal facilities at the KY Horse Park will tied up for WEG). In addition, the World Cup will have presentation slots at the Equine Village at the World Equesrian Games, although the specific dates/times and details are not yet available. Stay tuned for more info on that!
The application process for the 2010 US teams is now open, with the application deadline set at December 31, 2009. For complete details and application materials, visit our website at: www.saddleseatworldcupusa.com.
