I'm looking for rcommendations on equine sculptors whose work you admire. I'm working on something special, but haven't figure out all the details on ha I want yet, so I'm trying to get ideas. Web sites, if they have them would be great.
Thanks,

I'm not sure he actually does sculpture--what he did for me was actually a bronze--but he's amazing. Douwe Blumberg does great work. He made a trophy for me in memory of my old equitation horse, Astonishinglee and it turned out beautifully. Very detailed and realistic. He captures more than just what the horse looks like; he captured Leroy's personality.

Sondra Alexander does good work as well. She has had a booth at the Royal for the last couple of years with her animal tiles, but she sculpts too. My husband commissioned her to do a sculpture of my two horses (who happen to be brothers) for our Anniversary. She did a great job capturing each one of them.

Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming. Douwe is definitely a sculptor. I haven't decided on the media yet, so it could be bronze or something else. ErinASB I'm sending you a pm requesting Sondra's contact info.
Thanks,

Here's another vote for Douwe - his work is unbelievable (so is Patricia's, but Douwe's somehow come to life)

Another vote for Douwe's quality, but if you decide to go with him, check his schedule and existing commitments. I gave him a commission four years ago and haven't received it yet. I get "progress reports" about once a year.

Linda Rankin does beautiful work. I met her at Kentucky a couple summers ago and she was delightful.

Shary Akers http://www.sharyakersequineart.com/Bronze%20Sculpture%20Gallery.htm has also been at Kentucky with her paintings and sculptures.

You didn't say what kind of sculpture, but Jolene Hale does custom wire sculptures http://www.haloranch.com/

Thanks everyone for these suggestions. I haven't said what kind of sculpture mostly because I'm stillin the planning stages. Some of these I've seen and some I haven't, so I'm checking all of them out before makinga decision. I look forward to more recommendations.

Just wanted to bump this up. I finally figured out how to attach the photos, so if anyone is interesting in seeing the photos of the bronze trophy Douwe did for me, my first message on page one has them attached for real this time :)

That is beautiful! I remember you posting on here during the final countdown when the sculpture was being finished. It was well worth the wait. :D

Thanks! I was so excited when it was finished...I got it just in time for the show that first year. This spring will be the third year? (third or fourth) that it's been presented, but unfortunately the show it is given at is having some problems and might not be around much longer. :( I've been doing some thinking, wondering what I'll do with it if they stop holding the show. Haven't decided yet if I would give it to another show or just keep it as a statue at home.
