From January 29th - February 1st, 2000, ASHA will sponsor a breed booth at the West Coast Equine Affaire® event, being held at the Los Angeles County Fair Grounds in Pomona, MA. Equine Affaire®, the nation's premiere national equine exposition and equestrian gathering, organizes four days of clinics, seminars, demonstrations and exhibits, with an expected attendance of tens of thousands of horse people. This is our eighth consecutive appearance at the West Coast event and it has grown from a grass roots event to a Charter Club sponsored event to now, an ASHA sponsored event. We are thrilled at the support and progress that we have seen over the years.

The ASHA booth will feature the versatility of the American Saddlebred Horse, highlighting the “I’ll Take You There” campaign. This is an unprecedented opportunity for us to engage thousands of people and educate them about the wonderful breed we all love.

Saddlebred-loving volunteers are needed to help staff the breed booth, signing up for 4-hour shifts throughout the four days of the event, running from 9AM to 7:30 PM. Volunteer for a few hours in the booth and then spend the rest of the day watching the demonstrations and browsing all the exhibits!

We will have not only the breed booth, but also a petting horse in attendance, so volunteers are needed to move horses to/from the stabling facilities. Additionally, we will once again have a breed demonstration highlighting the versatility of our breed and this year have something very special planned ... not only do we have a dressage horse, but our dressage rider is going to return as our 5-gaited rider, thus dispelling some of the myths that abound between dressage and saddle seat!

If you are interested in volunteering for the booth, donating items for our raffle or volunteering horses as petting horses or for the demonstration please contact Kathie Dunn (attafox) k-dunn@cox.net . GOOD LUCK this week in Pomona. I am sure it will be a hit.

FYI to all - there will be a special presentation and discussion at the ASHA Convention next month about how to get involved in these types of activities in your area. Despite all the coordination and time involved, they are a LOT of fun and they really do help in the grassroots campaign to market the Saddlebred.

Thanks.

Mark.

Thanks, Mark.

Certainly wish more of you lived in the So. Cal. area. We have plenty of horses (6 petting horses to choose from!!!), but very few human bodies to man the booth. We can still use assistance. Unfortunately, all of us who have been the "mainstays" for the last 8 years have work conflicts this year and are begging hours to be able to assist.

It's not too late!

Our demo is Saturday at 4:15 in the main arena (the covered one - NOT the horse show arena). We will have:

1 - Sidesaddle horse (history)
2 - WC All the Money (in hand)
3 - Pleasure driving horse - driven by member of our World Cup team
4 - Palomino dressage horse
5 - Hunter, Black CP, SP horses
6 - Parade horse, WP horse and trail horse (WC All the Money returning)
7 - Gaited horse

Unfortunately our "dressage to gaited" transition isn't going to happen just because our first dressage horse came up lame. So now, we have a golden dressage horse.

Many, many, many thanks to sadllp who has really stepped up to the plate to help out this year. Peris Mom & I could NOT do it without you!

Now, my mom is videoing - but if anyone else wants to video as well - we could use you! We want a really good one of it this year.

Mark - hop on a plane and come on out!

Let me know if you need me to come out and help you work the booth this weekend. I should be free on Saturday afternoon after one and on Sunday if you need some help. I'm about 20 minutes away and can also for sure make it.
Just let me know!

Talked to Frankie and will for sure be there by like 2:30 on Sunday. I'm riding at Jim's sometime in the morning but I'll be over as soon as I can afterwards, ready to do your bidding.
