Hey Guys, quick question.
I registered Rafa "pleasure" type with Ptha because my trainer told me to... but some people have said he should be "saddle" type. Body wise for halter he looks more saddlebred, but for saddle classes he isn't going to have the extreme motion and I don't want to have to really pad him up. What devision would you register him in?

Are you talking registration for arabs? When you register an arab, you don't have to designate saddle or pleasure type..

This is a PtHA pinto registration that allows her horse to participate in their shows. The shows are split by horse type: Saddle, Pleasure, Stock, or Hunter. This is only limiting for the halter classes, though. I have not seen performance classes designated for type only.

Realize that a Pinto Park Horse class will have shod Saddlebreds in it as well as 1/2 Arabs, Morgan-X. The English Pleasure classes may have the above (I'm not sure about their shoeing regs.) and the rare Paint person who wants to try Saddleseat.

The judges will likely be Stock horse types, and may not pin the highest actioned horse over the well-mannered. Rafa's performance chances will depend more on your good training than which type he is registered as.

Go have fun.
Mary

Thank you for the reply. So, do you think I should just stick with the pleasure type then? This is what he's registered as currently. I guess you can change it while at a show if you have somebody "inspect" the horse... I didn't realize that ALL performance classes aren't split up. One of the shows I went to had their different classes split up- the stock horses didn't go against the saddle horses in any class... maybe it was a "special" show lol

No, he's only 25% Arab... can't be registered with AHR

Generally at medium-large Pinto shows the stock and hunter types are together, and then the saddle and pleasure types are together for the performance classes.

Where are your yearling pics? colts go through 'homely' phases where they are all legs and head...call your local pinto inspector and email her his pics; she should be able to suggest any change if needed.

And as Renae said, both Saddle and Pleasure go in performance together. The only time the classes are split is usually halter.

Whats her breeding??? 1/4 arab whats the other 3/4??? You have 2 choices. Stick to Pleasure type and have a FANCY pleasure type horse or to in the Saddle type and you may have to pad her up to compete with the full Saddlebreds or other Gaited breeds.

At most medium to big (non nationals) shows they split Stock/Hunter and Pleasure/Saddle in Halter and MAY give you an English (hunt or saddleseat) and Western class.

At the National show they split it down farther.

At the smaller shows they will usually have a Stock/Hunter Hunter undersaddle class which the pleasure/saddletypes arnt alowed. then they will also have an English pleasure class that is open to ALL types both hunt and saddleseat. (most people dont realize this)

If i was you Stick to the Pleasure type. You have a VERY nice foal with a REALLY nice head and neck.

Good LUCK

ps I show ALL seats and show both stock horses and Pinto Half Arabs

I would stay with Pleasure. What everyone is saying is right. Most local shows have Pleasure/Saddletype halter and performance classes. SOMETIMES they are split, but sometimes they are not. At the bigger levels they are split. But I even think this year's World Three Gaited was, "Three Gaited PL/SD type." The way my stables does is... if you have any Arab then its PL. Good luck!

I think you also need to take a look at how he moves. He looked a little less upright in his action shot so I would think more Hunter type as well.

DONT GO HUNTER TYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you go hunter type youll be competing against TB types....The Pinto registry will probably also frown upon it as well... Unless the horse LOOKS like a TB it shouldnt be registered hunter type.

Stock Type= QH, Paint type breeding
Hunter= TB type breeding ie..long lanky and tall
Pleasure= Arabian, Morgan, fox trotter or non stock type breed
Saddle= Saddlebred, TWH or other high headed high stepping breed

The Pinto association was started by Stock horse people so you have to think like a stock horse person when registering these foals.

If you think the horse has the ability to show in the Saddletype on the Class A Arabian circuit and do well at the Regional or top 20 at the Nationals you might get by with registering it in the Saddle type in Pinto.

Our barn goes by if its Arabian of any shape or form it goes Pleasure

I said this before... but ours does too! We even have a 1/2 Arabian and 1/2 Quarter that we regestered PL type, because she is very refined.

I really would recommend registering your horse PL type. Any reason why you don't want to register PL type?

No, he is already registered pleasure type- he was registered pleasure type b/c to me he moves pleasure type, but he looks Saddle type (he is 75% SB). When my old trainer was told I registered him pleasure she about had a heart attack and said SADDLE TYPE! So she made me 2nd guess myself.
