It is with great sadness that I let you know of the passing of a friend of ours....an exhibitor, breeder and longtime member of the Saddlebred community, Joan Dulworth, has lost her battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer which had spread to other regions of her body.
Joan is the daughter of Virginia Dulworth, owner of the AMerican Saddlebred stallion Fox Creek. She is also survived by her sisters Jenny & Jane (Jacobs), and her daughter, Vaughn (Smith).
Joan also was the person responsible for the website at www.janejacobsphotography.com which she ran for her sister and niece, Brooke.
More information on the services pending for Joan will be available, but there is some consideration to be given to the family given Joan passed away in Houston while in Hospice care there as she had been there going thru treatments at M.D. Anderson.

I am so very sorry to hear this news.
The Dulworth family name is synonymous with the American Saddlebred. Those three sisters, Jenny, Jane and Joan, and also Mrs. Dulworth are the epitome of grace and poise all the while having so much fun at the horse shows. A class quality act of sportsmanship, horsemanship and style that is seldom found.
I remember yacking with Joan one year at the Kentucky Derby for so long that we missed the last two races and almost our rides home. Others had to pry us apart. I will miss Joan in so many ways. What a good friend. A strong gal with a great sense of humor that only she possessed. May God Speed you, Joan. I am thankful you are not suffering any longer.
Mrs. Dulworth, Jenny (and her husband), Jane (and Brent), Vaughn, Brooke - my sincere condolences to all of you. May God give you strength at this time. Please remember all of the good that Joan blessed us with during her stay here on Earth.
Joan, you were one of a kind. You will be sorely missed.

Morgan's first horse was by Fox Creek, and Joan sent me a really nice e-mail discussing Fox Creek and the traits he passed on to his babies. We had never met, but she saw a post on the internet and "looked me up". She was definitely a class act, and I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

FYI....Joan was diagnosed with this "very aggressive" form of cancer only about 3 months ago (roughly) and the doctors in Lexington gave her about 2-4 months. Needless to say, the diagnosis was devastating to the family! Jane left the All American Horse Classic on Thursday to fly to Houston with her mother and neice to be with Joan who was really starting to go on the decline. I've been in touch with Jane several times a week for the last 10 days or so, and often daily. She was in terrible pain and even the morphine was not doing much for her. But, as with others who've experienced things of similar nature, she cannot say enough for Dr. McNeese's attention to the family while in Houston.
It is very sad.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I also had a Fox Creek colt. She was always ready to talk about "her" babies and I'll miss her.
This is so tragic. I am so sorry to hear this. My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

I am so sorry to read this and send condolences to the entire Dulworth family. I knew Jane had flown to Houston during the All American Classic, but was still surprised to see a post on this thread so soon. Jane has had a difficult summer worrying about her sister and I am so sorry Joan suffered with so much pain in the end. I wish peace to the family in knowing that she is no longer suffering. I know that heartfelt good wishes are going out in force from the Saddlebred community.

I'm so sorry to hear of Joan's passing...alas taken from us much too soon. What a wonderful job she did on Jane & Brook's website. I know she loved Fox Creek and took well deserved pride in his champion offspring. It always seemed to me that the Dulworth sisters would go on forever, I guess that's just the way we feel about our contemporaries. Joan was always full of energy - I can't quite believe she's gone.
All of us who put on the All American were very sad to hear that Jane had to leave the show to go to Joan's side - we knew if Jane had to leave it couldn't be good news.
My sincerest sympanthy to Jane, Vaughn, Jenny, Mrs. Dulqorth and the entire family.

Memorial Service Information for Joan Dulworth:
It is definitely November 1 at Kerr Funeral Home on Main Street in Lexington, KY. Plans so far are: On November 1 We will have visitation, followed by the service and Mrs. Virginia Dulworth (Joan's mother) will have a reception afterwards at the Griffin Gate Clubhouse on Sugar Maple Lane in Griffin Gate off Newtown Pike and close to Marriott Resort Hotel. Because of out of town family and friends, we are thinking 1-4 p.m. for visitation and service to begin at 4 followed by reception at Griffin Gate.
