I've went the last two years and am planning to go again. I want everyone to realize how unique and special it is to be able to see roughly 50 top stallions presented over two days. (If I'm low on my stallion count, I apologize.) These are exceptional animals and represent the future of the ASB. It would be absolutely impossible for anyone to do this by themselves. It is "the greatest show on earth" for our industry.
Personally, I greatly enjoy seeing the younger stallions. Last year I was so very impressed by many of these new or younger stallions. I bought a breeding for Kalarama's Superman. The mare's estimated foaling date is February 20th; and, I am looking forward to seeing the colt with great anticipation. Now there are many many other stallions that caught my eye too. These animals represent the best of over 100 years of selective breeding.
For me catching up with friends is also a great benefit for the AAC. We are spread across a big country and there are so few occassions when we all come together. The AAC stallion review and auction is one of them.
Finally, the AAC is unique because you get to compete for $150K as a weanling and then do it again as a 3 year old. This means that if you have one of the those grand mares that breeds wonderful show horses; however, she doesn't happen to be a good futurity mare. Don't worry about it. You'll get your chance at just as much money when your horse is a 3 year old. No other program gives you two swings at this amount of money.

Paul and I sent in our paper work in yesterday.
If you have not been to the AAC stallion review and auction you will enjoy it.
Even if you don't want to bid on a stallion, bid anyway and make your friends pay more!

And you may end up buying a breeding even if you don't own a mare...:o

...Which you could donate to SBR for a tax write off and they could sell it to an interested breeder perhaps? Not everybody hits what they want at these auctions, so you could get twice the warm fuzzies from participating.
Or you could buy a nice mare or lease one :-)

I heartily recommend attending the AAC tour and auction. I don't own a mare but had a wonderful time last year. Anyone who owns a mare they plan to breed in 2008 is missing out on a FANTASTIC opportunity if they don't attend.
And if you're lucky, you might get on Bus Two with those "wild and crazy" Badgers. :p

Hi Jim - Clem & I will be there in January - can't wait to see you, see the wonderful stallions and see our friends again that we have met on the tour & auction over the years. This is becoming an annual trip for us & we love it! You have changed the face of the futurities and interest in breeding - Thank you so much for putting the AAC event together.

LOL, see my avatar. I did OK (actually, really OK and I wouldn't take my experience back for the world), but I sure didn't go to the auction planning to be a breeder. Darn that open bar. :D

Regarding mlinky's comment on accidentally buying breedings.
It wasn't at the AAC but in the WI Futurity auction I accidentally purchased a breeding. I was bidding up Reedann's Top Gun and accidentally purchased it. I already had a breeding for the mare I crossed with Top Gun in the past. So, I needed a mare. After a little bit of searching we were able to lease Reach for the Stars. At the end of May, 2005 we had a wonderful bay colt. We named him Pull Up Your Socks. Pull Up Your Socks went on to win the WI Futurity Limited Breeders class under the direction of Jim Aikman.
