Cindy Clinton posted on another forum an important change to the Show Horse Alliance. This program will now be open to any horse, purebred or crossbred. This is an important change as formerly this movement was only including crossbred horses. Cindy said there will be a press release in a few days, but I look forward to the day when the SHA can be to saddle seat and fine harness showing sport what the United States Dressage Federation is to dressage sport or the National Reining Horse Association is to reining sport, a way to hold shows where all interested people can compete together and the entire sport can be promoted. All of the traditional saddle seat/fine harness breeds (Arabian, Saddlebred, Morgan, Hackney) are seeing declines in numbers, if I am not mistaken, and we need to do something to join everyone together who has common interest in this sport, no matter what breed they decide to ride/drive, and grow the participation park, english pleasure and fine harness type classes for everyone, both in all breed competition and individual breed competition.

Press Release: 12-10-07
Due to requests to include breeds of other horses but not limited to crossbreds re: Hackney, Saddlebred, Arabian, Andulusian, etc.
The Show Horse Alliance Board of directors voted to open the program to ALL Saddle Seat type horses. The enrollment fee is $150.00 for all horses. The Show Horse Alliance Board of Directors feels that by opening up the program to any and all, whether it is a crossbred or purebred, it is now using SHA to openly promote Saddleseat showing as a discipline. We hope by not having any blood restrictions we can now be considered the melting pot for the Saddle Seat Type horse. Our intention is to become what the NRHA, is to the reining horses, and USDF is to Dressage horses. SHA Classes will be expanded in place of the all- breed and open classes at the NSH Finals in 2008 to encourage participation. For more info contact the National Show Horse Registry nshregistry@aol.com or Cindy Clinton at cindyc@infinet.com 937-935-1753.
Show Horse Alliance
In recognition of the popularity of horse events based on type, or discipline of horse, the National Show Horse Registry has created the Show Horse Allian(SHA) for owners, breeders, trainers, exhibitors and admirers of Saddle Seat type horses.
The purpose of the Show Horse Alliance is to promote the Saddle Seat English type horse by providing a showing venue and developing a prize money program.
The Show Horse Alliance offers Saddle Seat enthusiasts a program where emphasis is placed more on phenotype than on genotype. One of the Alliance’s goals is to encourage breeders to create an extreme Saddle Seat type of horse, free of blood content restrictions.
Owners of ALL BREEDS are encouraged to participate. Few restrictions have been placed on participation.
Eligibility - Show Horse Alliance (SHA) classes are open to horses that have been recorded with the Show Horse Alliance. (Refer to SHA enrollment and eligibility rules)
Enrollment Eligibility - Program open to all Saddle Seat Type Horses.
Enrollment Fee: $150.00 - Horses eligible for National Show Horse registration must be registered with the National Show Horse Registry prior to enrollment in the Show Horse Alliance.
Description -Show Horse Alliance horses are first and foremost Saddle Seat Show Horses with emphasis placed on conformation, action and attributes most easily recognized and associated with high trotting animated horses possessing upright carriage, brilliance, quality and show ring presence and finish Saddle Seat Standard.
The Show Horse Alliance horse should represent an ideal Saddle Seat type horse.

Renae ... Are you breeding purebred DHHs or DHH/Saddlebred crosses?

I am breeding Dutch Harness Horses, but as the Dutch Harness Horse book is open to Saddlebreds I have 1 Dutch Harness Horse colt sired by a Saddlebred and probably will use Saddlebreds again in the future. That colt has KWPN Register A papers, which can be upgraded to full KWPN papers when he is 3, and he also has Half-Saddlebred papers. :)

I bet when it grows up it would look really fancy in a phaeton class.

That is something I would love to do as well when these horses get old enough! We are keeping the Castle Bravo colt as a stallion prospect, do you know are stallions permited in ladies phaeton classes? Otherwise we have a nice black filly we are keeping too.

Before 1900 and even into the 1930's there were classes for open saddleseat and driving horses -registry not required.
As certain horses and families proved unbeatable in the various divisions, they ended by being split and restricted by breed.
It is refreshing to see open competition being tried again, when will the rules and regs. be posted and where will the classes be held?
Thank you,
Mary

Thank you Renae for sending me this way. I am sorry the website is not updated yet, however the rules for the classes have not really changed and should be okay. I will need to check them. The show that offers the most SHA classes is NSH Finals in Springfield,ILL on 9-17 thru the 20th. . We have offered different breed classes in the past, and open classes however we felt it made more sense to open up SHA to ALL saddleseat type horses to become more of a true saddleseat discipline. Before we allowed crossbred horses only. By doing this our schedule will be opened up and we will hopefully be adding even more SHA classes if the response is there. Any show can offer these classes. Feel free to email me anytime if someone has questions. Also if you would like a show to add these classes please have them contact us. Thanks and Merry Xmas Cindy

So this means that the rescue horses that don't have papers are eligible to show in the SHA classes?

Can anyone give me some updates on how this is working out? Have there been many classes offered? How are the classes being attended -- good turn out and quality of rider/mount?
With the dearth of ASB breed shows in my neck of the woods, I'm kicking around the idea of looking into these classes as an opportunity to show within our discipline on our State's Arabian circuit, and since I've not heard anything more about the SHA in the past couple of years, I 'd like to know if it is really a worthwhile option.
Not to mention that it presents yet another opportunity to show off the many fine attributes of the ASB beyond our own breed show parameters (see marketing thread . . . ;) )
