Southeastern Horse Sale , to be held at the state of the art Asheville, NC horse show facility on December 6, 2008.

What a great excuse to go south for the weekend. This was just announced on ASHA and I hope they get allot of support . Many many nice horses come from the Carolinias.

Has anyone heard anything else about this? Estimated # of entries, etc.? Also, anyone know what time the sale will start? I'm going to have to make some arrangements, and I'll need to know pretty soon!

I'm guessing that the sale organizers were waiting until the consignment deadline to make firm plans on time, etc., seeing how this is a new sale and no one knew what to expect. I'd suggest you contact Ray Cloninger or Wyatt Lilly - their contact info is on the web site (link is posted above) - and then you could repoort back to the rest of us. :)

The downloadable catalog is now online. 144 horses catalogued, and I am guessing there will be others that didn't make the catalog deadline. Tack sale too.

This is on my way to work every day. I planned on going and it would be fun to meet some of you there. BTW it has been snowing down here twice in the past week, so we are not much warmer than any of you up north, so bring some layered clothing.

Some rare bloodlines going through. Check them out even if you aren't familiar with them -might bring in just the fresh bloodlines that will spark a renaissance in your breeding program!

I agree Baldstockings. This looks to have the makings of a really nice sale. Good bloodlines, nice prospects and finished show horses.

looks like a good sale for sure - we are putting 4 nice prospects through and a nice broodmare.
I hope I get there but not sure as I have to work on Friday and it is a long drive by yourself in the dark

If anyone is lucky enough to come home with either #45 Paradise Punch or #67 Paradise City, please let me know!! I remember both of these sweet boys when they were youngsters!! :D

So.. who is planning on attending? Who is buying? Selling? Which horses catch your eye? I'm particularly fond of #58 - I showed this mare all season long. Definitely looks like it's going to be a good sale.

So.. who is planning on attending? Chester and I will be there for part of the day - purely spectating. I'd love to meet any trotters I haven't met before. I should be pretty easy to "spot" wth Chester as my constant companion. (He's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, for those who haven't met him either.)

I'll only be there for part of the day session. I'll get what I can. But I'll also volunteer Maytime (Tim) to do it :D... he's really good with show results.

Just came from the Ag Center they were having a regular horse auction and I noticed some activity at the "big barns" and we went to check it out. There were some beautiful babies there, all spiffed up and some adult horses. I can't wait to go and watch them on Saturday!

Well, I'm planning to be there all day just to spectate and speculate, but I'll do my best to get prices and outs. I'll be late posting them Saturday night.

I sure wish I could have gone, but my old grand TB died yesterday so I've got to deal with that. :crying:

If anyone can let me know anything about who got Lots 86 and 143, that'd be great, that's who I had my eye on.

Auburn Hill

I didn't get there in time to see the other one go thru, but 143 went thru and only brought a bid of $800 and was sold for that. Prices today were very low and many horses no sold or didn't even bring a bid. The most expensive ones I saw today were 79 @ $4500, 67 @ $5700, 58 @ $3100, 48 @ $3100, 22 @ $4000, 19 @ $2600, 13 @ $3400 and 7 @ $2000. I had a bit of a hard time understanding if they actually sold because the auctioneer would hit the gravel and sometimes say sold and other times not say anything, so if someone else can back this up that would be great. Most horses sold well below $1000, broodmares and weanlings not rode in really didn't get much interest.

My husband went with me, just to see if they were selling any better than our local auctions, didn't take the trailer or checkbook. Had no plans to purchase a horse due to his mill not being sure about his job, they laid off 4 people at his mill and asked for voluntary early retirement to cut back, BUT he bid on one mare without me there! I went to the bathroom and he bid on lot 50 because he "saw something in her" and no one else bid and we ended up having to go home and get the trailer and bring her home, she sold for $250 and after talking with the owner she is totally broke to ride too! I told my hubby that he now must take riding lessons to put her to use, as we already have five other horses. I really think he felt sorry for her, she is a very friendly girl, name is Manhattan's Starbuck and has only had one owner her whole nine years. Did anyone else get a horse today? Her foal from this year went thru, lot 80, and sold for $450.

Here are the only corrections or discrepencies that I had with the above list, I had no sales on the following horses: 16,23,25, 31 and 45. My husband bought 50 for $250, 61 was a no sale, 67 I had down for $5700, 80 @ $450 and 111 and 128 as no sales. Can someone else verify??? THanks, Maria

I sold a broodmare to day that was infoal . she only brought 150.00 dollars. There was just not alot of people there to buy horses. Alot of horses did not evening get a bid. I learn a lesson today that i will not auction another horse at a new sale. people was just not there to support it.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Mary Miles, Black Horse Farm? I wasn't able to attend the sale yesterday, but my gelding's half-sister (Lot 41) went through as a broodmare and I just wanted to find out about her... If anyone has her contact info, please PM me.

Its a shame there were not more buyers there... an east coast sale is a great concept though (thank you Ray Cloninger and Wyatt Lilly). Hopefully the quality of horses entered is just as good next year - and with a better economic climate for purchasers.

IMHO they just chose a bad time of year to have the sale. My trainer could not go because he had holiday carriage driving gigs, and I could not go because our family Christmas party is tonight. Several other people I know had work Christmas parties and the like so it is just not a good time to have a sale. I bet if they had waited to have it after the New Year they would have had a better response...just my guess though.

I think that they have a great concept and maybe were trying to slip it in before christmas so that people could have a surprise gift maybe..???... However, might I add that the weather was very, very cold and had there been any precipitation it could have been very dicey getting to and from. My mom and I went and watched...had to sit on my hands. I bet I could have bought 20 broodmares for $2000 or less some in foal and some not. It was a little crazy. I hope everyone made it home alright. Some of the horses were body clipped and it was very cold... I hope they don't get sick. Congrats to all with new steeds, there were some very good buys!! Merry Christmas

I agree with Karen that this was probably a bad time of year for this sale. It may have done better if it had had a little longer to be advertised as well. As far as sellers being upset about the sales prices, I completely understand and empathize; however, the seller should also communicate to the auctioneer what they expect from the sale. If a particular price was desired, a reserve should have been placed on the horse; otherwise, you are at the mercy of the bidders. If the auction was not an absolute auction (which I don't think it was, but I honestly did not read all of the terms), then the auctioneer also could have used his discretion and not sold a horse if it did not bring a certain price. Unfortunately, the auctioneer can't do that for every horse, otherwise the bidders will get discouraged and not buy at all. The auctioneer represents the seller, and should have their best interests in mind, but again, it all comes down to communication between auctioneer and seller. If a seller says, "it's gotta go", then the auctioneer has no choice but to take them at their word.

I think this sale is a great idea, and offers those who might not be able to travel to KY to sell their stock the opportunity to sell their horses at auction. Hopefully, sellers will give this sale a chance next year, and with a year to advertise, it will hopefully do better. Kudos to Ray and Wyatt for putting this together.

Lot 102 was not sold. They brought him home. Lot 51....someone really missed the boat on this four year old mare. A big pretty daughter of Renaissance Man and out of a Sultan's Santana daughter who was a successful show mare in her own regard...Dazzling Time MBA drives, rides, wears a full bridle.

Albert - I could not make it to the sale so I had Tommy Lee bid for me. I bought A Material Girl. :D She's talented, sweet and easy to work with. Tommy Richardson bought Gigolo Joe and got him for a song.

Wind Chill - are you the person Les called for me? That is so cool! This horse is so sweet and you can do anything with her but she goes to work too. Please PM me all the details you know about her. I've already talked with the owners directly but it's fun to find out the scoop. She stalled beside my new park horse (Broadway And Forty-Second) who is just like her - very pretty and fine featured.
