The Arabian mare shown in pictures on the Stieger farm (a.k.a. Pure Thoughts SC Rescue operation) taken by Patrick Dotson disappeared off the farm before the warrant was executed. The mare was chased down in three different counties. On Friday it is my understanding that Jen Swensen of Pure Thoughts FL contacted the detective pursuing the abuse case in Abbeville and advised him that Chloe was back on Tracy Stieger's property. Detective Busby arranged for her voluntary surrender to PEARL.
She arrived this afternoon at 1:48pm. Tracy made the mare be off loaded on the road. While my husband and a young man walked her up the driveway, I met Lynn and we went back to the trailer to speak with Tracy. The Pure Thoughts logo is still on her trailer with both the FL number and Tracy's number here in SC. I asked what she was feeding the mare and she said Southern States senior feed, a total of six pounds a day with two daily feedings. I asked when she had been wormed last and she said "yesterday with Ivermectine". I asked if the mare had been seen by a vet and she said "no". I asked if the mare had had her hooves trimmed since when she took the mare in and she said, "no". I asked if she had had her teeth checked and if they had been floated and she said, "no". I was told she had looked bad for a long time and I asked if she had had any medical assessment to see if there were underlying medical issues and she said, "no". The mare has rain rot and has not shed out.
I asked her about Heston and she told me he had been "humanely euthananized" after a colic. I asked for the vets name and she refused to give it to me saying her lawyer told her not to talk about it. I asked her if she didn't think the family that had adopted Champ wouldn't insist on a wellness visit seeing that one of the three horses is dead, one is emaciated and the he is still considered missing. She declined to respond.
The vet is scheduled to be here this evening. The following is a link to the pictures taken just as she was dropped off by Tracy.

In my first conversation with Lynn I asked her if Tracy had been thrown under the proverbial bus by Pure Thoughts and she said "she sure was". She went on to say that from the moment they dropped of 82 horses, they dumped and ran. Lynn also said that she was done with so called rescues. She wondered how anyone can call themselves a rescue when before the horses are off loaded at the rescue farm, they appear on a web site up for sale at over 1,000.00 and more. We hope Lynn changes her mind and chooses to continue her charity work with horse in need but work with a group that has more realistic goals.
At 7:48pm Dr. Stafford arrived to perform the standard intake exam and assessment. The mare was found to have rain rot. She is to receive daily betadine scrubs and all "scabs" picked off. Her HBS is a 1.5 with her weight at 673 lbs (weight taped) well under what she should be. Her feed instructions are 2 lbs. soaked Seminole Sr. feed 4 times, a day with a 1/2 lbs increase every five day up to 14 lbs. per day then reduce the number of feedings. In five days she if she is doing well on her feed program she is to be "Power Pack" her starting day 5 thru day 9 at 700 lbs. In two weeks we will re-asses her health to determine if she can stand the sedation to address the many issues with her teeth. She has sharp points. Per vet instructions we will be getting the farrier out here ASAP. We expect to have the first of many corrections done on or before Tuesday.
All reports will be forwarded to Det. Busby and he will be in contact Dr. Stafford. We are addressing this as any standard neglect case we handle and this mare is part of an on going investigation with Abbeville county.
I spoke with Dr. Grey and she said no one has come forth to claim the older Arabian "flea bitten marked mare". It is our understanding per Jen of Pure Thoughts, FL the owner is well known to both she and Tracy. She will need a retirement home once the case has been settled.
Please go to this article. It clearly states what is going on in our country.

Once a rescue is full, they need to have the ability to say no to what than they can handle and find additional assets. The problem must be addressed at the country, state and, county level.
