View Full Version : 4 Star Horse Trailers
We are considering the purchase of a used 4 Star horse trailer. We would be hauling ASBs and Clydesdales. The Clydesdales are the concern. Some trailers are large enough for the Clydes but trailer dealers have steered us away from certain brands as they are not as "sturdy" built for the big horses. One dealer I have talked to says the 4 Stars are the best built trailer - funny he sells 4 Star. Another dealer I have talked to has said 4 Stars are not well built. He sells Jamco and Eby. He does most of the national Draft horse events so at most of the Draft shows I see lots of Semis, Stock Trailers and some Jamco and Eby. We are not getting into a Semi right now.
If you have experience with a 4 Star - good - bad I would like to know. You can private mail me if you prefer.
Do you feel they are "sturdy" built for hauling. The hardware, stall dividers, butt bars...
The side walls do they seem as robust as other trailers.
We are looking for a trailer that we would want to keep for many years.
The height/width and axels are OK for what we need.
Thank you,
Kristine

4-Stars are great trailers. They're the only thing we buy these days. We've had two in, hmmm, 10 years or so? Might have had another before that but can't remember back that far LOL
The first one was a 2- or 3-horse bumperpull. Held up get through the years. It looked practically brand new when we traded up for our current trailer; which is a 4-horse with living quarters :D
Yes, 4-Stars are very sturdy; solid hinges and stall dividers, ect. Sturdy ramps.
We didn't have any problems hauling our 18.2hh Belgian from NJ to IL in one day. He even walked up and down the ramp without any problem (might have bowed just a wee bit though; but he's a big boy LOL)

You best look at suspension, weight distribution etc. 4 star and Eby are excellent. Don't plan to keep a trailer for many years, you'll see. Get one for adaptability of what you are doing now.
