Dixieland Express, aka "Dixie" passed away Friday night. The vet had to put him down because she believes he had a tumor wrapped around his intestine. He was at Taylor Made Farm when he died, and was 22 years old. Dixie was a great, sweet horse, who always gave you all he could. He showed in several different divisions, starting in 5 gaited then eventually becoming a 10 and under walk-trot horse. I didn't own Dixie, but I loved being able to ride him and I even got to show him a few times in equitation. He was such a hard-worker, and never wanted to let you down. Dixie was a true champion, and will never be forgotten by any of us.

The thing I remember about Dixie was his cute expression when you walked past him. I don't think he ever put his ears down, cause I never saw him do it. He always looked like you had a peppermint/food for him, and was so interested in everything going on around him.
I wish I'd given him a peppermint more often...

I remember Dixieland Express when he was at Claude Shiflet's barn in Asheboro. He was one handsome horse. Sorry for your loss. Melissa Primm
